The borough of Hamburg, PA, tucked into a valley in northern Berks County, is home to a surprising art and craft gallery, located at 320 State Street. Artists from the surrounding area support the gallery with their time and talent, proving this with the recent renovation of a long-standing men’s clothing store into their current home.
The niches that previously held racks of men’s clothing now contain well-lit art and craft displays, from jewelry to ceramics to sculpture to fiber art and painting.
The gallery members enthusiastically organize participation in the annual Hawk Mountain Art Tour, and Artdrenaline, a summer camp for kids combining sports and art. They also support the biggest event of the year in Hamburg, the annual Labor Day weekend Hamburg-er Fest, where a town of 4000 turns into 40,000 overnight. With happy eaters and browsers sample the creativity of local churches, civic clubs and restaurants, vying for the People’s Choice awards. And browsing the many displays of art and craft.
I have a niche at the gallery, as does my husband and partner, Jay Ressler. We are both on the board of the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance, and support its many programs.
