My husband and I retired from our Pittsburgh jobs and moved to the house we’d built near Hamburg, PA, in 2014. I floundered at first, both in my imagery and in the use of found objects. Thinking at first that I should continue with the industrial images associated with the work I’d done in Pittsburgh, I travelled to Bethlehem, PA to do a series inspired by the preserved steel stacks there. And at first I continued to incorporate found objects, until I realized that this made no sense when they were picked up in the streets of Pittsburgh.
